There are two kinds of audiences. One group that rolled in the aisles and turned the original Fukrey into a sleeper hit four years ago. Another lot of people simply couldn’t connect with the general zaniness. To the latter set of viewers, I’d say, stay away.

However, if you loved the 2013 Fukrey, then you’ll find Hunny, Choocha, Zafar, Lali and Bholi’s repeat round of antics hugely entertaining.

Choocha is back to his world of dreams. In fact the sequel kicks off with a bite-my-backside dream sequence that has Hunny and Choocha relieving themselves in a jungle. A snake bites Choocha on the backside and Hunny has to suck the venom out of the wound.

I didn’t find this backside opening really funny. However, I do acknowledge that there is an audience that’ll find Choocha’s exploits with women and the thin frivolous plot a stress-free entertainer.

The writing by Vipul Vig sets the right premise for some crazy comedy. Female don Bholi who was sent to jail in the last instalment has come out after the intervention of a politician. Now Bholi owes him and she’s convinced that wastrels Hunny, Choocha, Lali and Zafar owe her because they were instrumental in the law catching up with her.

Choocha’s dreams which throw up the right clues for his friends to make a killing in the matka racket continue. But this time, they have to make money to pay Bholi who in turn has to pay Babulal the mantri. It all adds up to a CWG kind of political and financial scam.

A story knitted with enough room for quirks and harmless fun, director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba makes full use of the many opportunities to keep the laughter going.

The window for a third edition is opened when Bholi announces that after her life as a do numbri, she’s gonna try her hand at netagiri. And inexplicably, she gives Choocha something to look forward to. So stand by for the Fukrey team to strike again with Bholi in her new avatar.

Pulkit Samrat, Ali Fazal, Manjot Singh, Pankaj Tripathi…in fact all the actors who showed a flair for comic timing the first time around, raise non-stop laughs this time too. But it’s primarily Varun Sharma’s show as foolish Choocha. Richa Chadha as underworld Bholi also stays with you. Personally for me, it was the adorable tiger cub that won hands down as the cutest.

I must confess that this is not my cup of tea. But for a comedy that’ll delight Fukrey fans, Fukrey Returns gets 3* rating.
